Chin Augmentation: What Is It All About?

Facial implants offer a good SOS to people who want to achieve a more striking appearance in their chin, cheek, and lips. Among these sought-after procedures is chin augmentation, which addresses chin shape that isn’t right or ideal in relation to the rest of the face. It’s popular among both men and woman, with procedures going for enlargement or advancement of this prominent facial feature.

Genioplasty or chin enhancement surgery enhances the contours of the chin, neck, and jawline. It typically involves placing an implant around the patient’s existing chin bone ito augment the size and define the shape of the chin, resulting in a more desirable balance among facial features.

Chin augmentation appeals to those bothered by a weak or recessed chin, the proportions of their facial features, or a full or double chin’s appearance caused by a small chin bone. Good candidates for this procedure are those with recessed chin, pointed or square chin, fleshy neck, and prominent nose. In fact, a chin implant is typically used in conjunction with rhinoplasty for the best possible results.

Chin implants could be preformed, such as silicone ones, and some cosmetic surgeons can demonstrate the benefit via computer imaging, where patients can visualize their post-surgery appearance.

Candidates for this surgical procedure should be in good health, maintain reasonable expectations of the surgery, and be free from certain medications such as anticoagulants and medical issues such as hypertension. With chin surgery, the surgeon is likely to make a small incision under the chin, and then insert the implant over the front of d12the jawbone. Recovery usually lasts from four to seven days.

Cheek Implants: Do You Need Them?

Not all faces are made equal. Some have striking definition, visible cheeks, and superb bone structure. Others, on the other hand, need the help of cosmetic surgery to achieve these. And the cheeks could host one of the most noticeable changes that could be made through a simple surgery. But what are the compelling reasons to get implants?

Well-carved cheekbones are the envy of many. Naturally they can only come from good bone structure and are only as good as time would allow it. And not only do they make one look more beautiful, they also make emotional expressions that much more dynamic. These are some of the pressing reasons people get cheek implants.

First, not having the right bone structure could lead to a less contoured face. And makeup can only do so much in terms of making cheekbones pop. For people who want more contours, cheek implants are the way to go.

In addition, naturally perky cheeks don’t stay that way forever. Over time, they tend to lose volume. They could also be affected by major changes in weight. If you find yourself slowly losing your cheekbones of if they don’t look like what they used to, customize your cheek implant procedure to get that look you and everyone else loves.

How To Prepare a Child For Otoplasty

Some children are born with prominent ears, which protrude a bit farther away from the head. These can make them self-conscious or downright embarrassed, and they may have to endure teasing at school because of their ears. Otoplasty is a cosmetic ear surgery that seeks to change the position, shape, or size of the ears.

Also known as “ear pinning,” otoplasty reduces the size of large ears or pins them back when they protrude too far from one’s head. This procedure is recommended to be done as early as possible – the younger one is, the easier to shape the cartilage of the ear. Here are some tips to prepare a child patient for the surgery.

Review medical history: Be prepared to answer the doctor’s questions about the child’s current as well as past medical conditions, particularly any ear infections. Disclose any medications taken recently as well.

Be open and honest about what’s going to happen: Discuss the procedure with the child and let them know what to expect from the surgery. The surgeon can also sit down with the parent and child before the surgery to go over any questions. This will quell the child’s anxiety about the operation.

Offer an incentive: Have the child look forward to something. Offer their favorite toy or ice cream before the surgery, and tell them it’s something they can have after the surgery is over and they’re in recovery.

Explain the recovery process: Tell the child that once the bandages are removed, the change in the ears’ appearance will be permanent and immediately seen. Note that they would have to stay in bed for a couple of days and take time to heal.

Common Concerns And Considerations Before Undergoing Blepharoplasty

Drooping eyes make a person look tired, sad, or stressed. Sometimes, sagging skin under the eyes can age a person’s face and give off the wrong impression. Blepharoplasty, also known as an eyelid lift or eyelid surgery, is a safe and popular facial plastic surgery procedure that can improve a person's looks. For those who are planning to undergo this procedure, here are some things worth considering:

The overall health condition of the patient

Before going through the procedure, a patient must have no history of heart diseases or blood clotting problems. A person must also get pulmonary clearance before the operation. While the surgery can be performed in under an hour, this is to prevent complications from arising during the whole procedure.

Clearance from an ophthalmologist

The preorbital area surrounding the eyes requires a thorough examination by the surgeon before undergoing the procedure. Before moving forward with the surgery, it is especially necessary for patients who have eye conditions to get clearance from their doctors to ensure that both their eyes are in good shape and won't be affected by the procedure. Getting blepharoplasty can solve common vision problems such as loss of peripheral vision.

Post-operative care

Expert facial plastic surgeons are trained to make incisions in places that won't cause scarring. The process is painless and will only cause minimal bruising. However, taking a week or two to heal is required to facilitate faster recovery. During this period strenuous activities and excessive sun exposure should be prevented.

Facial Plastic Surgery As a Gift

Gifting the gift of facial plastic surgery has become a trend in recent times. Clinics have noticed an increase in appointments from Thanksgiving through New Year’s thanks to people who want to look good for these special occasions. But what brought about this new trend?

With the rise of gift certificates sold online, many have purchased these simple procedures and used them as actual gifts to other people. Procedures such as rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, and injectables like botox are just a few packages. Just make sure that the clinic selling these have board-certified facial plastic surgeons.

So should you get your friend or family member one of these gift cards? Well, the answer to that can be tricky. Facial plastic surgery isn’t the same as gifting a hat. The gift-giver has to communicate properly to the receiver his or her intentions. Is it something that he or she needs but can’t afford to pay for at the time or are they too busy to scout for the right place to undergo the procedure?

A gift-giver can get a no for an answer. Keep in mind, some people may not like the risks involved in these procedures.

If your loved one agrees to the gift, let them be the one to choose their surgeon if possible. Facial plastic surgery is a very personal endeavor and choosing the right hands is paramount.

Facial Plastic Surgery Trends For 2018: What To Expect

An annual review of plastic surgery trends by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) revealed that 2017 was a huge year for plastic surgery treatments, where treatments for 20-somethings as well as non-invasive procedures saw a major rise. A bigger revelation: these are mostly influenced by the selfie culture, shaped by what’s seen on social media and how people perceive themselves through the lens of those channels.

Here are some huge trends in facial plastic surgery to watch in 2018.

Non-surgical nose job

Easily topping the traditional rhinoplasty this year is the non-surgical nose job, which uses injectables to change the shape of the nose in just around 15 minutes. Depending on the filler used, it can last for one to two years.

Eyelid beautification

Eyelid procedures are also climbing in numbers to make the eyes look less tired. Small amounts of volume are being added around the eyes – using either fat or filler – as a stand-alone treatment or to enhance an existing surgery. Fillers, too, can hide undereye bags.

Treating lines even before they appear

Botox and other neurotoxins are becoming more popular with younger clients, who would no longer wait for lines to form before they start those treatments. Prevention here is key, as those in their 20s or 30s are already in line for treatment before the lines become apparent.

Face lifting using threads

Threads are increasingly being used to lift the face and body, and they work well to stimulate collagen. When the doctor positions the skin over the thread, there is an immediate result and over time there’s a noticeable lifting effect.

A Lift To Bring Back One's Youthful Looks

Reliving one's youth need not be just a #throwback post on Instagram or Facebook. These days, various facial plastic procedures are available to both men and women who want to bring back their youthful looks.

Based on the most recent facial plastic surgery statistics compiled by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more people will be curious about and open to surgical procedures especially those geared toward rejuvenating the face.

One of these procedures that can erase years from one’s face is the brow lift. Also known as the forehead lift, the brow lift surgery, as explained by Dr. Adam Stein, a Raleigh, NC-based facial plastic surgeon, can correct droopy eyebrows that make a person appear tired and sad and the furrowed forehead that result in a stressed or even angry look. What the surgery does is:
  • Lift the sagging brow
  • Raise the upper eyelids ·
  • Smooth deep creases in the forehead
  • Minimize frown lines between the eyebrows, and ·Improve the appearance of crow’s feet.

And while the brow lift surgery may seem too invasive for some, patients need not worry, for these days, an endoscopic brow lift is available. Compared to the brow lift procedure of the past that calls for a large incision from ear to ear on the scalp, an endoscopic brow lift employs a minimally invasive technique that requires only tiny incisions in the hairline. Apart from a very natural-looking result, patients can also expect faster healing, less swelling, and well-concealed scarring after an endoscopic brow lift.

As with any medical procedure, it is critical that patients consult only a board-certified facial plastic surgeon for any surgery or treatment they wish performed on them. A seasoned doctor can address any question or concern a patient may have regarding a desired procedure.
